Like, Brie feels like the powers are a burden and we hear that over and over again. I can see where Ryan attempted to change Brie there at the end, but it felt a little insincere and rushed. In this book, we see a lot of repetition in her thinking and her feelings and not a lot of growth. I think she paced these out well even if some were predictable.īrie was slightly more frustrating to me in this book than in the first. Similar to the first book, I think Ryan did a great job of slowly unraveling secrets and clearing up lies. Actually, I would say the plot and the pacing of the entire book were really well done. The beginning of this book started out strong. We see Brie fleeing the Seelie palace feeling betrayed and angry and hurt. This book picks up right where the first left off which I was so happy about. Still, I very much enjoyed the further unfolding of secrets, the romance, and learning more about this world. Maybe I had high expectations, maybe I didn’t give myself enough time to process the first book, I don’t know. This book, while still very good, did not quite hit all the marks I’d wished for.
